My Methods Greenville Anti-Meth Campaign — Ongoing
Situation
The City and the Police Department of Greenville, Mississippi have been awarded a grant from the United States Department of Justice to combat their every increasing Methamphetamine problem. They need assistance in educating the general public about the widespread epidemic. Because they are one of the first cities in the United States awarded this type of recognition from the Department of Justice, they realize the strong impact they must have on their community.
Key insight
In order to have an effective message, it was necessary to become knowledgeable about all aspects of Methamphetamine and how it is affecting the Greenville, Mississippi area. Through interviews and discussions with the Special Narcotics Unit and research, we were able to understand the mindset of Meth users and producers. We investigated what made Meth more dangerous than any other drugs encountered in their area.
Solutions
Creation of an identity and brand unique to the Meth problem in Mississippi (METHODS — Mississippi Empowerment Through Hope Opportunity Development and Service). The initiation of a Partnership Campaign has been created that will unite all sectors that are affected by this drug (business community, non-profit sector, motel managers and owners, faith based organization, education sector, healthcare industry, law enforcement, and city officials). A Kick-Off Campaign along with a series of educational events are being developed to promote the awareness of Methamphetamine. A comprehensive website and ad specialty items are being developed for each event to continue to enforce the Anti-Meth message.
Results
The City of Greenville has completed a public Kick-Off Campaign with the attendance of the press, city officials and all those involved to form a community united to affect this problem. They are also developing their calendar of educational and training series for the Greenville Public School system.
